50s-style bikinis are shooting up in the style stakes. Bring the charm of a simpler age to the here and now. These retro styles have a much more 'modest' design than we've been used to over recent years. That can actually be a plus: in high-waisted hotpants, you can pretty much just throw a blouse or kimono over the top and you won't look out of place in town – especially if you're just heading out for cocktails. Marine colours are bang on trend, from deep peacock blue to Caribbean turquoise. Frills and floral patterns also work brilliantly with vintage-look bikinis.
The swimwear equivalent of Coco Chanel's little black dress is bound to be a popular choice on beaches again this year. Plain black bikinis simply exude class. This colourway is most often seen in designs with high-waisted bottoms. Monochrome accessories and golden jewellery set the look off to perfection, but however you style it, it's best to keep the number of colours to a minimum. The LBB is all about simple elegance.
Give hot weather the cold shoulder! The off-the-shoulder trend now extends to swimwear, too. Bikinis with a cold-shoulder design bring a dash of glamour to the beach. Up the wow factor with eye-catching draped details. You might just be heading to your local open-air swimming pool, but you'll feel like a screen goddess on the French Riviera.
Outsized ruffles on swimwear bring the undulating waves of the sea to mind. Designs vary: some versions have them along the neckline or on the bikini bottoms, either puffed out, flowing or artfully draped. They look especially striking with asymmetric shapes. Whatever you go for, ruffles give otherwise straight-laced swimwear a playful look that's perfect on holiday and for laid-back days at the seaside.
Who says cats don't like going near water? This summer will see lots of feline-inspired looks heading for the waves, as animal prints are seriously big news in swimwear fashion. Bring out your wild side in bikinis emblazoned with tiger stripes or leopard spots. Mark out your style credentials and draw lots of admiring glances!
If your brain's already in holiday mode, you'd better get on and order a good bikini! Afound.com is constantly launching new deals on branded products. Designs from current and past collections are up for grabs at up to 70% off.

The very first bikini was created by French designer Louis Réard in the 1940s. Réard had just taken over his family's lingerie business. The war was over at long last, and he wanted his designs to bring a sense of joy and nonchalance to the everyday lives of his customers. Material might have been scarce, but his imagination knew no bounds. He pared the swimsuit back to four small triangles of fabric, held together with cords. Et voilà, the bikini was born! It was an absolute scandal – and a phenomenal success. Réard's original design, the triangle bikini, remains a firm favourite with fashionistas to this day.
Bikinis are usually made of synthetic materials that dry quickly. They can be affected by salt and chlorine, though, which make the fibres brittle and cause the elastic to go baggy. Bacteria can also gather in the material, leading to unpleasant odours. For that reason, you should rinse out your bikini after every use. Give it a more thorough wash every few weeks, either by hand or on a delicates cycle in the washing machine. Swimwear should be washed at no more than 30°C with a mild colour-fast detergent, on a non-spin cycle.
Absolutely anyone. If you feel comfortable in your bikini, then go right ahead. Every type of figure is beautiful in its own way. Bikinis come in so many different styles – you're bound to find one that's just right for you. Why not order a few to choose from? Often you can only tell whether a particular style will suit you when you try it on in front of the mirror. See how it sits when you move; you don't want to have a wardrobe malfunction midway through a game of beach volleyball. Your bikini needs to fit well; you'll feel so much more confident if you're comfortable.
