They open up the face so that it makes a strong visual impression and also provide a fresh glow. You can also enhance it with a touch of blusher on the cheeks.

• A small Kabuki brush is ideal for applying rouge.

The eyes influence your make-up look like no other part of your face. And because there are so many possibilities here, you need very different brushes. There are eye shadows that you can apply to the entire lid and then there are others that you can use to emphasize your eyelid crease or to outline your eyes. The delicate skin on the eyelids responds well to soft bristles. On the eyebrows they can be a little firmer in order to get powder under the hairs. Tip: It's best to invest in a brush set for your eye makeup that contains all the basics.

• Oval brushes apply your favourite eyeshadow evenly across the eyelid.
• Rounded blender brushes blend colours in the crease of the eyelid.
• Small bevelled brushes draw fine eyelid lines and are ideal for shaping eyebrows.
• Small smudging brushes are excellent for smokey eyes.
• You can apply highlights with precision using fine brush pencils. 

Lovely lips

If you use a lip brush, you can apply lipstick with great precision. This makes it easier to trace the curved contour than if you were using a pencil. This is especially worthwhile if you're going for a glamorous evening look. And on top of that, it's also hygienic.

• Lip brushes are round with shorter bristles that are soft yet firm. 

Utensils for your make-up 

With brushes and sponges you can apply the different make-up products evenly and with precision. Use a separate brush for each step. This way the products do not mix. In addition, brushes and other utensils are hygienic. This is because you never touch the product directly with your fingers. Sets usually come in an attractive case. How do I clean make-up tools?

Regular cleaning is part of using sponges and brushes. For brushes, there are cleaning pads that you should use to wipe off product residues. The important thing is, however, that you wash it once a month. A mild hair shampoo is suitable for this purpose. Moisten the brush and massage the shampoo into it thoroughly, then rinse it completely. Then let the brushes dry with the bristles facing down. 

How do cleaning pads for brushes work?

The silicon pads are extremely practical for everyday use. They remove powder residue from the bristles of your brushes. To do this, wipe the brush onto the surface of the pad after use. The pad is textured. Some pads have silicone bristles, others are ribbed. Either way, they are great for cleaning your makeup utensils on a daily basis. However, it is no substitute for regularly washing out the brushes.

Which is better, cosmetic brushes made of real hair or synthetic ones?

Whether you prefer animal or synthetic brush hair is primarily a personal decision. If you're using vegan cosmetics, why make an exception for brushes? If it doesn't matter to you, real-hair brushes have a slight advantage with powdery products. Synthetic brushes absorb less liquid. For this reason, liquid foundation and concealer can be applied more sparingly with them.
